Part 3 – becoming fully qualified
Successfully passing this final element of the HG Diploma enables you to become a fully qualified human givens practitioner
This is the final Practitioner Level Qualification of the Human Givens Diploma.
Students who demonstrate a high level of capability in, and understanding of, human givens therapy during this week will pass the practical assessment of their skills and competence leading to a successful Part 3 Practitioner Level Pass which means they are then eligible to become a Registered Member of the Human Givens Institute (HGI) and be entered on its Professional Register of qualified human givens therapists.
With recent changes to the profession, it is now vital that all counsellors and therapists belong to an Accredited Register such as the HGI’s, which is recognised by the Professional Standards Authority — the government body which also oversees the BACP, UKCP, the General Medical Council and many others.
Demand for human givens therapists continues to grow and the HGI receives enquiries from all over the UK and abroad for fully-qualified, accredited psychotherapists and counsellors working from the human givens approach.
Part 3 must be completed within two years of passing Part 2.
Requirements
To take Part 3 you must have:
- passed Part 2 within the last 2 years*
- been advised by your supervisor that you are ready to take this qualification (see below)
- be a Graduate Member of the HGI (GHGI)
- hold Professional Liability Insurance
- provided 2 professional references
- have undertaken as much therapeutic practice as possible, with a minimum of 10 different clients
- and had ongoing paid supervision with an HGI-accredited supervisor whilst doing so.
Working towards Part 3
Good supervision is an enriching learning experience, as well as an integral part of the Diploma and your development as a therapist.
You are expected to work closely with your HG supervisor in preparation for Part 3. As well as helping you to further develop your clinical skills, they will guide you as to the types of cases you can usefully and safely work with at this stage; will encourage you to use outcome measures; and give you guidance with regard to safeguarding and working ethically.
Your supervisor will advise you when they think you are ready to take this final assessment stage of the Diploma. They will be asked to submit a report to the College upon your acceptance on Part 3. (Read more)
* If you took your Part 2 longer ago, you will need to do some refresher training before taking Part 3. Please contact the office to discuss your individual case.
Part 3
This intensive week of skills practice, feedback, tuition and ongoing assessment is your route to becoming a fully-qualified human givens practitioner. It gives students the opportunity for more therapeutic practice, direct feedback and assistance in embedding their skills and knowledge. Throughout the week, students practise and demonstrate a broad range of practical therapeutic skills under supervision and rigorous on-going assessment by the two highly experienced tutors. You will also be given feedback from your peers and the experienced facilitators. Before attending, students will work closely with their supervisor, including supplying them with at least one recording of a therapy session they have undertaken. During the week there will also be individual student Viva (oral) assessments with one or more of the tutors.

Those who have already successfully graduated from the week enthuse about how useful and enriching it is – see video above.

How to apply
There are a maximum of 12 places on each Part 3 and places tend to fill up fast, so once your supervisor feels you are ready we recommend booking your place as soon as possible. Please contact us on +44 (0)1323 811690, Mon-Fri (9.00am–5.30pm).
Cost
The fee for Part 3 is £1,992. This includes all tutoring, assessments, final report, refreshments and lunch on all five days.
Please note: students are also expected to undergo supervision (at their own cost) with an HGI-accredited HG Supervisor prior to attending the course and must be a Graduate Member of the HGI. Supervision for trainees is required at a ratio of at least 1 hour of supervision to every 8 hours of therapy work undertaken with clients.
To secure your place, you will need to pay a registration fee of £500 when you apply. This amount is then deducted from the total course fee, but is non-refundable and non-transferrable.
Once you have successfully passed Part 3, and have been accepted as a Registered Member of the HGI, you are accredited to practice as a human givens therapist or counsellor.
